'Working dogs' to carry mail
Tuesday January 24th, 2012
The U.S. Postal Service released a new line of postage stamps yesterday that feature working dogs. The four new stamps have four different dogs engaged in as many different helping tasks: a search and rescue German Shepherd in a field, a therapy Welsh Springer Spaniel visiting an elderly woman in her home, a tracking yellow Labrador following a scent; and a guiding black Labrador Retriever assisting a blind woman.
The 65-cent stamps are available in quantities of 4, 10, and 20. Each stamp is painted by John M. Thompson, an artist from Syracuse, N.Y., from a photograph.
